Palenque, Chiapas

Pakal´s Tomb (Temple of Inscriptions)
Palenque is another of the great mayan cities, it is in Chiapas, surrounded by jungle it´s also a very hot destination.

Before entering the ruins there are some restaurants and handcrafts, once more you should buy enough water and eat something because it is a pretty big area and it takes several hours to visit the whole place.

Temple of the Cross

One of the most important buildings in the area is Pakal´s Tomb, this pyramid  has a tomb inside it, now it´s not allowed any more, but some years ago it was possible to climb all the stairs and then descend even more than you have climbed, which means the tomb is lower than the
ground level, and watch the amazing carved stone tomb of Pakal. There is a replica at the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City.

Usually pyramids we can see are only  the base of the whole construction, in the top was another part made of wood and palm, or some other materials that didn´t survive through time, but in Palenque´s case, some top constructions were actually made of the same stone so we can still appreciate them nowadays.

We can climb some of the pyramids as you can see in some of the photos i have posted, it´s truly important not to leave bottles or any other stuff up there because that is one of the reasons they don't allow people to go up in most of our archeological zones.

Make sure you bring enough memory space and batteries for your camera because there is a lot of great spots for shooting.
